Growing pains

For children, growing pains are often experienced as episodes of throbbing pain in the hips, knees, shins and ankles that often occur late afternoon, early evening or even disturb sleep.

Sometimes the pain can be affected by:

  • muscular tiredness
  • poor foot posture
  • underlying causes

It is important that a child with pain is assessed to determine the cause of the their pain.

There are many effective ways of reducing the child’s pain including:

  • massage
  • heat
  • addressing underlying biomechanical imbalances

The most important thing to remember is that underlying causes must be excluded. Our podiatrists will be able to assess the pain and rule out any other causes of pain.
